Cristina, a 43 year old wife and mother of two boys and one girl, is determined to make a better life for her family. As a young girl she would watch others crochet and began to teach herself; not learning good technique until she joined the knitting group. She is proud of her work and will watch and practice at length with the goal of being one of the best, sometimes working at it all night if need be.
Despite the harsh conditions, Cristina is proud of El Salvador and is pleased when visitors come. She wants to show the tourists and those that come to help that there are hardworking and capable people here. She and her husband, who works as a tailor, concentrate on a better future and work very hard to be able to afford an education for their three children.
When asked what she is working towards, and how Santa Rosa Stitches is helping her, she says “In my life, I’ve had so many dreams. I would like to know all about the United States, see my kids graduate high school and to achieve a college education. These dreams, little by little, are becoming reality. To have a safe house with brick walls so we could at least feel a little safe and a daily plate of food for my family is what I ask God for every day.”
She enjoys making all the SRS products. SRS has provided an incredible economic blessing, and truly enjoys what she does. Her work has helped her provide an education for her children.
